RwK has two goals:
- Encourage parents to read to their children.
- Create a community of book lovers to surround, support, and strengthen that effort.
We are looking for volunteers and donors. But most of all, we urge people to do any of the following to serve a role models for our children, and our community.
- Always carry a book.
- Read to your children and grandchildren.
- Read in public: during work breaks; in the checkout line; in the waiting room; at dinner; at public events.
- Encourage the parents of babies & young children to read to them every night.
- Join a book club, or start your own. Include people at work, at your church, your civic club, your PTA, and your neighborhood.
- Encourage pregnant women to read to their babies before birth.
- Invite local authors to speak to your civic club, church, or classroom.
- Join our Facebook page. Encourage your friends to join. Add your favorite books and reading posts. Share our posts to your Facebook page, and to the Facebook pages of your other groups.
- Tell friends and new parents about the benefits of reading to their children: Link.
- Talk to people about books, and ask what they’re reading.
- Hold Baby Book Showers for expectant parents.
- Visit all of our region’s libraries, and check out books.
- Give books and bookstore gift cards as presents.
- Set up a book bulletin board at work or in your church: What are you reading? What are your family & friends reading? What do you want to read next?
